Yesterday I went on a walk along the coast at Asilomar, California and ran into this purposeful duck with no sidekicks. We didn’t say much. He led and I followed over mounds of soft, dried kelp and rocks that looked smooth but were ready to slash skin at a moment’s slip—I have the strawberry to prove it.
He was definitely leading me on—check the look on him in the photo above, rounding the corner as if he were on his way to work.
I stopped to sit on a flat rock so I could frame some thoughts of importance like this: ever notice how often you can’t do what you want to do when you want to do it? Although, I did it. What? The creative “it,” that’s what. My mind was really wandering but at least I knew where it was going… and not with this duck taunting me with 25 feet of ocean between us!
