Memo to the world: here is an updated photo of myself. Yes, that’s my shadow against the rocks at the self-proclaimed Sammy’s Beach (not on any public map). This is my “church” where I go to dream, rejoice and sometimes regret. We should each have a place to reflect although it isn’t necessary to broadcast this fact like I have done, nor need it be on the coast. Here are other places of reflection in my life:
Lived in a garage converted into a pool room in New Jersey for two months. Main thoughts: “Why am I here?”
Sat for hours in a sun room in a mansion overlooking a kidney-shaped pool in Beverly Hills where the downstairs tenant, a woman, enjoyed nude sunbathing. Main thoughts: “This is too good to be true?” The owner was a kind, elderly man who rented the place at rates charged thirty years prior. He just wanted someone to be nice to the space since he and his late wife had lived there for decades. I was nice. More main thoughts: ” This room is out of movie set–too perfect.”
Wrote pages of concepts inside a VW Bug converted into a one-seat vehicle. I lived in it for a month. Main thoughts: “I need a shower.”
Knocked out a novel on a manual typewriter in the basement of a house in Warren, Ohio during a time when the Steelers ruled and the Chevy Vega kept everybody working in the area. Main thoughts: “My fingers hurt.”
I like where I am now.
