I am a museum. With free admission and not closed on Mondays, I am quite accessible, but rarely visited, save through this blog and the occasional random chat where memories of what once was are topics to snicker about. Here is this week’s main attraction:

In 1969 I was a newspaper reporter who typed daily stories on an IBM manual typewriter. I used  “White Out” to correct major mistakes. I’d also edited the copy, using proofreader marks. Following me? When done, I inserted the typed pages, one at a time, in a tube that would spin around until the editor 15 miles away received it. Next, I waited for the editor to call me with instructions (choose one): resend the copy because it didn’t come through clearly; rewrite it or “great job.” Oh yeah, we didn’t have “spell check,” other than to pick up a dictionary when in doubt– maybe that’s why I didn’t misspell words and still don’t.
