The worst sandwich in the world was served to me at roadside diner in Wyoming in 1971. The menu claimed it was beef. I had been drinking coffee out of an Army-issued helmet a few months earlier, so my standards were exceptionally low. The meat color was gray, the texture was leathery and the taste was cardboard-like. I thought about complaining but the patrons were zombies. For a bit I thought I’d wandered into a horror movie set. Funny, how the one and only bite I took from this sandwich is still with me.
