walkway - Copy (2)As a rule most men prefer to get lost rather than ask directions, or use a map. This generalization is based on my personal experience. I took this photo somewhere in Venice while attempting to find the hotel that had my belongings. I kept passing the same church, or what I thought was the same church.

But nothing tops the night when, as a teenager with the
family car, I drove to Canada by mistake. My passengers—teens like me– were asleep, not that their being awake would have helped. We were headed
to New Jersey from a New York nightclub, not in the city, but in the boonies.  The hour was late and this 90 minute drive ended up taking five hours. I remember the sinking feeling of seeing a mileage sign for the Canadian border—that’s when I realized I was driving in the wrong direction. DUH! Funny now, but not when it happened.
