I was in the Army in 1971 when I wrote this poem about those who made sacrifices during the Vietnam War. I was standing by ” Sgt. Rooney’s” when this event occurred–his legs were gone. I was the lucky one. Never forget.
Sergeant Rooney
In a hospital bed
Sergeant Rooney’s face
Explains war
To the backs of a
Two-star general
And a beauty queen.
