The onslaught of pounding, high surf for the past month has reconfigured the famous Carmel-by-the -Sea beach. Sand is missing, or rather it has been repositioned. Anne is looking back at the wood stairs that are, as usual, even with the beach. However, after walking 25-feet from the stairs, there is a drop of four feet instead of a gentle incline to the ocean. Rocks are exposed that were once covered by white sand. As Anne demonstrates, there is still a beach, although less of one in terms of depth. The sand bank is a natural protection against further erosion.
