Scores of brown pelicans are dying along California’s cost and the experts aren’t certain about the cause.The most plausible theory I’ve heard is that pelicans are unable to find enough fish to eat. Pelicans dive for their food to an ocean depth of six feet. But for some reason the bait fish are swimming deeper than six feet, so the pelicans can’t get reach them.I found a dead pelican this week on Carmel Beach(photo above).
