After a few days in the Sierras with a low bright sun and long shadows, it is a refreshing contrast to look at the fall colors of the Carmel River Lagoon. This shot would make a challenging jigsaw puzzle.

Mallards Preening
I checked out the Carmel River lagoon after a week of rain. The only wildlife about were mallards preening in the reeds, oblivious to the wall of sandbags that prevented nearby houses from flood damage.

Most of my heron shots are close-ups. But this week four were gathered in the lagoon by Carmel River State Beach for a meeting prior to what turned out to be a nice rain. The “coloring” in this area is spectacular–jigsaw puzzle material.
