As the sun drops on the horizon, two brown pelicans take flight for a safe place to spend the night–usually on ocean rock outcrops occupied by other pelicans. This is a common sight along the coast of Carmel and Monterey.
I’ve noticed that pelicans like to fly at sunset. Maybe they want to reach a destination like an outcrop of ocean boulders before dark. Two days ago was no exception. I didn’t have to wait long for two pelicans to line up with the sun setting on the horizon.
