For the last week there’s been one snowy egret at the southern end of Carmel-by-the-Sea beach. This bright white bird stands out against the kelp-blackened rocks as it searches the surf for something to eat. I assume this is the same egret I see each day.
This snowy egret is hoping to catch a meal during low tide, despite the rough surf. The agitation of the ocean waters creates a snow-like foam that settles between rocks and on kelp, a dynamic that doesn’t bother this bird.
