This morning I woke to a light rain and all is right with the world. We need rain here and a light rain, as opposed to an extreme act of nature, is reassuring although, according to experts, not enough to replenish the reservoirs that are well below capacity.
Weather has a negative touch to it. Sometimes we have to view footage of another continent to keep our fears alive. Tsunamis, earthquakes, flooding, blizzards, etc. are brought to our doorsteps (for those who still get a daily newspaper delivery), or our living rooms with the evening TV news, CNN or the Weather Channel.
The point here is the pure pleasure of raindrops on the roof can be short-lived in these days of constant global weather news amid the backdrop of climate change; i.e., more glacial ice sliding into the ocean. We are screwing up the planet and our best efforts may not undo what has already well in place: insert bad weather news here.
I call all of the above the “weather continuum.” We can’t ignore, reshape or stop it. However, I’m not going to lose the pleasure of morning raindrops to the man-made thirst for worry—there is room for both.
