I’ve always wanted to host a radio talk show, preferably late night on some FM station without a lot of ads. I read the news on the radio many years ago, but was never in the position to mouth off on whatever as I do now in this world of blogging.

Hey, this radio gig isn’t going to happen unless I come into some big money and buy a station, or at least a portion of air time, but, back to the dream.

I’d have lots of good coffee available and would slurp on air. I have experience in working egos, so I could get guests with something to say. It would be a program much like that bar that stays open on Christmas Eve for people with no place to go. The pace would be slow with some elements of surprise, but nothing crashing off the table.

We’d have to have callers—they are the nuts and bolts, but mostly nuts of talk shows. But I’d limit the calls—no rush to cram in the next 20.

I am amused by these sports call-in programs where callers or the host invariably say, “How’s it going?” “Alright, man.” “Raider Nation!!” Speaking of the Raiders I was on I-5 North near the Gilroy exit this past Sunday around 8 a.m. My Prius was left in the dust by a convoy of giant pick-ups sporting Raider Nation flags. I assume they were headed for tailgaters at the Oakland Coliseum—kickoff was at 1 p.m. Oakland was demolished later that day. I sympathize with the fans that drove over 200 miles round-trip to witness a bad beating. But I wouldn’t do sports talk on the radio although I am a jock who memorizes batting averages. No, the subjects would be the subtleties of life like despair and euphoria.

Well, at least I can keep blogging.
