They can’t help it–those elected leaders who forget, or ignore the fact that they work and live in a public bubble. This week’s loser is the Big Apple’s mayor, Bill de Blasio, who three days ago unveiled a new street safety campaign. Unfortunately, the campaign was kicked off by the mayoral SUV, operated by a “specially trained” driver, who was followed by a TV crew that filmed the vehicle exceeding the city speed limit by 20 mph as well as going through stop signs without so much as a pause. The mayor was in the passenger seat at the time.
The mayor told reporters he’s “comfortable” with a statement from the chief-of-excuses, aka chief-of-police, who dropped the “specially trained” driver card. I guess this means a driving pro is above the law because…
This scenario is one for Damage Control 101. Lead by example. Admit you’ve set a bad example and then do the right thing. Duh! The troubling issue here is the first reaction of the Mayor after he was caught.
