Romance comics were popular from 1947 to 1977. Pictured is a collection of issues published in 1970 and 1971. In browsing through this ‘literature” recently, I was struck by the large number of ads for “longer nails.” The cost was $1.98 for what looked like a system of gluing on nail extensions. Charles Atlas ads were common as well as deals for various magic tricks. Ah, the teenage market.
I had a superb comic book collection as a kid: Tarzan, Batman and Superman, but no romance stuff. My mother tossed them one day when I was at college.
