Last night at 8:40 p.m. a man yelled out, “Is that the moon?” He had a great deal of doubt in his voice and why not, this super moon, rising on the horizon a few minutes after sunset, didn’t have the right size or color of the orb that usually hangs over flat Sacramento.

To get the moon rising I positioned myself on the top (7th) floor of a city parking garage. The color comes from the remains of a sunset. Twenty minutes later the moon was white with light brown craters. DSC_0350
