The flight pattern of jets into Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey often includes buzzing the solitude of the Great Swamp Refuge. On a hike I happened to look up and saw this very large bird–eagle like–flying silently above the thickly wood swamp. A short time later I heard the rumble of a jet in almost the same spot. While it is unfortunate that airport noise mars the refuge experience, it is great that so many people have easy access to view wood ducks, mallards, swans in a marsh land.
