This is the first of occasional posts on why I “really like” specific photos that I’ve taken over the years. Please comment.
It helps that I know the subject, Anne. I love the movement—she’s walking with perfect posture and a purpose—turning left—while being noticed by a man entering the picture. The graffiti jumps out, crying for attention. Most of all I am reminded of the drawing of Miss Clavel in the famous children’s story, Madeline: the flow of the nun’s habit as she turns the corner “in the middle of the night” to see what’s wrong in the boarding school. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the publication of Madeline set in Paris. Of course, Anne lived in Paris at one time. The photo was taken in Firenze.
