I entered an empty room yesterday morning and flashed back to grade school days and those dreaded required dances. These socialization tests were held in the late afternoon in a multi-purpose room much like this one. The chairs would be filled with girls whose feet barely touched the floor. The guys would huddle, waiting for someone with courage to break the ice. I would perspire and try not to get too close to the girl who said “yes.” It was over so quickly, those years of innocence and shyness, but the memory returned briefly yesterday. Awkwardness, I miss you.
