Yesterday on NBC National News the on-air talent said that the Northern California forest blaze–the Rocky Fire–had scorched an area the ” size of Cleveland.” Okay, I’ve been to Cleveland–my car died there. I’ve seen the Cavs and the Indians play in Cleveland, but I have no idea how big it is and would venture to say most people don’t know how many acres are in Cleveland which isn’t anywhere near Northern California. Clearly, this is the weird analogy of the year for NBC News which has done well in putting Lester Holt, a ground trooper news guy, in the weekday anchor spot vacated by a man with a vivid imagination. But yesterday was the weekend crew, so the bar was lowered, I guess. Or, maybe I heard wrong. Whatever.
