Yesterday afternoon the sun poked through the smoky ash and fog hanging over Carmel, to give an orange cast to objects below in our house.

The Soberanes Fire has consumed 23,000 acres and destroyed 20 homes. Yesterday, fire officials said the blaze is 10 percent contained and may not be put out until August 5th. I’ve posted many photos this year of the Soberanes area, including a canyon trail that leads to old growth redwoods, about six miles from our house.  I assume these majestic trees are no more.  More than 2,300 firefighters have been battling this fire. We thank them for their courage and pray they stay safe.
