We drove 20 miles north a few days ago to get out of the smoky haze of the Soberanes forest fire. Ended up at Moss Landing where most of the eating places were “Phil’s.” His main location was packed, so we ended up at “Phil’s Snack Shack” which we had passed on the way into this harbor town. We had great sandwiches–grilled sanddabs and snapper– in, shall we say, a rustic outdoor eating environment where we were joined by our three dogs. To top it off two pelicans in an estuary kept gliding by our table—but they were more interested in the bottom of the water than the top of our table.

By the parking lot were newly installed speed limit signs for an “otter crossing.” Apparently otters cross the road when the tide is low. Oh, and dress casually when visiting this wildlife and dog friendly area.
