I was walking along the coast road in Carmel this past weekend when I ran into a garage sale, or, maybe it was an estate sale–I don’t want to offend anyone. I stopped and rubbed the top of a round oak table. I had one for many years identical to one now offered for $90. Mine had been in great shape, including the middle leaf that expanded seating by four. I thought about all the bridge games played on this table decades ago– forget what happened to it. The version in front of me was badly worn, rickety and missing the leaf. Then I looked up and saw a parrot on a fence, about a foot from my nose. I stepped back– so much for this impromptu daydream.
