I got out of my car yesterday and faced it, not by choice–it was simply there, bare land in the city on a blistering hot day. I lingered briefly, after all I had a chess match to play in an air conditioned building, the only structure in this field of a developer’s dreams. Real estate politics were at play. No progress was winning. The promised self-contained community was still on paper, save for a few California poppies stuck in the brush.  Mate!
