I walked to Carmel River State Beach expecting to see herons and pelicans, not six adult golden retrievers lapping in the water. Beach rules say ‘”no dogs off leash, but I guess it was just one of those days. Two owners watched their dogs roll in the sand before diving into the river that empties into the ocean about four hundred feet away. The dogs were simply drunk with joy.
