We had hiked about a mile in the canopied-woods (Southern Illinois) without seeing any birds or bees when we reached a sunlit area with wildflowers. I saw what looked like bumble bee on a flower. Took a quick photo before marching on. When I looked at the image later that day, I was struck by the details I couldn’t see when I was taking the shot. The blurred wings and what seems like gold fur on the bee’s back were two aspects that jumped out at me. I haven’t found an image online that matches this insect. Nature rocks.
