I was watching a heron stalk prey at Point Lobos when I spotted a sea gull doing the same from offshore.
I am not a fan of gulls–I’ve witnessed them killing wounded birds and, of course, I’ve been seated at an outdoor restaurant when a gull has swooped down and stolen my lunch. I assume this one was focused on the results of the heron’s hunting; i.e., the presence of krill near the water’s surface. Or, maybe it was taking a break.
