Watching quails provides a nice break in the day. They have a strong sense of family. I find myself rooting for their survival as they crisscross roads in broad daylight.
Yesterday, for the first time, the adult male and female were on our roof together looking below in our “forest-like” front yard where, perhaps, their chicks were foraging. Usually, only the male pulls guard duty. Or, maybe those chicks are out on their own. I spotted tiny quail racing across the road earlier in the week, but there’s also a much older family that’s been hanging out in our yard. Or, maybe it’s time to start a new family.
