Strange Bird on Short-lived Perch

The tallest tree in the area is about to come down for a variety of reasons. I was looking at it from afar when I saw a large bird land on an upper branch. After I enlarged the telephoto shot, I was stumped by what I was looking at. Anne identified it as a Northern Flicker, a woodpecker known for eating ants.
