The Great Egret’s Neck

I had to sneak up on this great egret to get a shot of how its neck bends. This magnificent bird was endangered in the 19th Century when it was killed in large numbers for its plumage used to decorate hats. In 1953 the National Audubon Society adopted a image of the great egret as a symbol of protecting birds.
