Anatomy of a Capture

Humming bird circles a Peruvian lily.

I see hummingbirds almost daily, but for several years I’ve been unable to photograph them. My excuses are (1) don’t have my camera; or (2) I don’t have enough time to get a focused shot before the bird jets away. Yesterday, I pulled out my telephoto lens after seeing a praying mantis anchored on a leaf of a plant I didn’t recognize. I was about to take a shot when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a hummingbird circling a Peruvian lily. After a series of clicks in sports mode, I walked away with that hard to get well-focused photo of a humming bird in action. Pure luck.
