The California Brown Pelican was removed from the endangered list in January 2009. I took this photo six years ago to celebrate in my own way the triumphant recovery of this magnificent bird. Wanted to capture the wing span, close to 80-inches, that to me, gives the pelican an eagle-like look when it glides along the coast. FYI: I’ve never photographed an eagle in flight. Also, while I have taken close to 500 digital photos of pelicans this year, I still haven’t gotten anything close to the above wing-span shot from 2013. In a moment of great patience, I had positioned myself on a cliff overlooking the ocean and waited for quite some time for a pelican to fly overhead. Click. Peace.
