Return to the Wetlands

I returned to the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area yesterday to take a shot of the wetlands. That’s Interstate 80 on the horizon, also known as the Yolo Causeway. This environment reminded me of the deaf jack rabbits in the fields by Los Angeles International Airport. The incessant sounds of jets landing and taking off had destroyed their hearing, but not their habitat. Here, the constant drone of traffic can be heard by egrets, herons and ducks, but the noise is elevator music compared to LAX. In fact, some birds perch themselves on the freeway wall overlooking the wetlands. There is a white speck near the end of this “canal” in the photo, a great egret.
