Around 4:30 p.m. yesterday I took a break from the heat. Found a chair in the backyard in the shade and settled in with my camera by my side. This is the speed of life in retirement. I thought I’d get a shot of Ivan, a long haired dog trying to get comfortable. But then I was surprised to see an admiral butterfly–I last remember seeing one in Big Sur, a few years back. My checklist of area butterflies is almost complete for this year–remaining is the monarch, usually due in early October.
