Egret’s Disappearing Leg


Took this shot of an egret with one leg showing. A minute earlier it had two legs. Egrets and other species of birds stand on one leg with the other tucked among feathers to maintain warmth–blood flow from the leg is cold compared to blood flow through feathered parts of the bird.
