A starfish in all its glory is fully exposed in a Carmel Bay tidepool in the days before the starfish population was devastated by a mystery disease called Star Fish Wasting Syndrome. I took this shot in July of 2011. The disease struck the West Coast beginning in 2013. I’ve only seen a handful of starfish in recent years. Scientists report seeing large number of baby starfish this month but say it is too early to tell if these babies are diseased.
