DSC_0492 - Copy

I took this photo this morning while driving into San Francisco during “rush” hour(s). I left the wipers off to allow the drizzle to build up on my windshield–ended up with a “reticulated” black and white photo. Hellish drive.

But after I downloaded this photo, I recalled a photo class I took at Napa Junior College decades ago. I had my own photo lab (my bathroom) at the time and wanted to learn some tricks. I practiced reticulation in the darkroom. Fun. I think there’s a mode on my digital Nikon that mirrors reticulation effects. Regardless, this shot taken through a rained-on windshield was luck.

I love this image Steffen, great texture and atmosphere. I often like to add a grainy texture to images, especially black and white, but hadn’t heard of reticulation before.

Thanks for the comment. “Reticulation” died with the demise of the darkroom–now it is a product of software, but it is not the same.
