A Chance Encounter with the Painted Lady

I stepped outside yesterday and almost collided with a painted lady on a flower by the back door. In this shot the lady appears to be looking up at me. She stayed on the flower for a few more seconds before leaving.  I took the delay as a sign of trust.

    We had throngs of Painted Ladies last year, but I saw none this summer.
    They are so pretty!

    I saw lots of them last year, but this season I’ve only seen one at a time over the past week.
