Sailors Take Warning…

December 16, 7:07 a.m.

The old mariner’s saying was spot on yesterday. ” Red sky at night, sailors’ delight, red sky at morning, sailors take warning.” Indeed,  sunrise was quite red for 15 minutes over Carmel. Northern California got soaked.

My father first told me this rhyme when I was a child. He’s passed on, but I think of him at every red sunrise. He was weather savvy, having been a squadron leader and navigator on a B-17 during WWII. His service is always part of the memory, in part, because he rarely talked about it except at a red sunrise when we were on our way to play golf. Rain gear…check!

My labels: grandfather, father, veteran, writer, poet, photographer and dreamer in pursuit of the meaning of life. Getting close, although I'm running out of time--probably why I'm so close.
