A Mighty Oak Replaced by Fungi

Where once a mighty coastal oak stood in our backyard, fungi rule. They have spread quickly, covering the stump of a diseased tree cut down five years ago. These photos show the mushrooms after a week of growth. Time for a science fiction movie?
