Bees and hoverflies in our backyard ivy, September 21, 2019.
The ivy in our backyard, which blooms in September, was packed with bees and hoverflies yesterday. Took this shot to show how the hoverfly(upper left) and an Italian honey bee (lower right) work almost side by side to collect nectar. In past years I’ve seen butterflies, especially monarchs, right next to bees in this ivy, but this year nothing like that yet…
The last time I saw a monarch butterfly in our backyard ivy was October 2017.
