Yesterday morning a fog bank hung over the Carmel River where brown pelicans had gathered before taking off to scour the coastline for food. I walked on the beach to get a closer shot of the birds when without warning a late to the party pelican flew a few feet over my head towards the crowd. I got off two shots as it disappeared briefly in the fog on its way to a splashdown on the river.
