If only there had been blue skies…I went to Carmel River Lagoon yesterday morning to photograph brown pelicans, but, unfortunately, it was another overcast day, so the contrast between the bird and the sky were a little dull. I shot with a Nikon 5100 in sports mode with auto focus with the vibration sensor off. I stand on the beach and wait for the pelicans to fly about 30 to 50 feet over my head. I also have Ivan leashed to my belt–he’s good about not moving. Sometimes I shoot in self-timer mode so I don’t have to push the shutter as in the above photo–I guess when the pelican will be overhead.
