The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge

Elevated boardwalks run through the 12-square-mile swamp. My daughter and my brother are in the background.
The swamp is near heavily populated areas and is on the flyover path for jets landing at Newark International Airport.
The refuge provides habitat for 244 species of animals.

I live 3,000 miles from the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge which is a mere 26 miles from Manhattan’s Times Square. I grew up near the swamp and every ten years or so, I visit it to bring back memories of when I was a kid with a furtive imagination.
