On day two of high swells and torrents of rain, a rainbow appeared over Carmel-by-the-Sea beach in the late afternoon. We had come to witness the power of the ocean that had covered the famous one-mile stretch of sand in sea water. Suddenly, for less than a minute, there was a visible signal that the show was about over. After I took this shot I looked up at pelicans hovering directly over me. It was a magical moment, more in my head than in reality. About an hour later, the rains came down in buckets.
