Honey Bee in Winter

I am starting to see a small numbers of honey bees buzzing flowering plants despite the harsh elements of winter. Took this shot yesterday in our yard. Northern California has been socked with snow, rain and high winds in the last month.

The recent storms felled 27 trees in Monterey, 25 in Pacific Grove and over two dozen in Carmel–three cities adjacent to each other. So, we’ve had our quota of fallen trees and ensuing power outages for what may be the new normal–I hope not, but the extreme weather may decide otherwise.

Meanwhile, the honey bee, driven by instinct, continues its vitally important function as a pollinator.
